JOB DESCRIPTION
ASSOCIATE PASTOR- MINISTER OF YOUTH AND CHILDREN
July 2011

Principle Function:


The Minister of Youth and Children will be responsible for developing and executing a
long-term vision for these ministries. He will provide overall leadership in developing and
directing ministry to children and teenagers from first grade through grade twelve and their
families. This will include evangelism, edification, discipleship, relationship building and such
other ministry involvement that serves to attract children and their parents to Broad Street
Baptist Church and ultimately to a saving faith in Jesus Christ and a growing relationship with
Him.

 

Minimum Qualifications:


A growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
A call to full-time ministry.
A passion for working with children and youth.
A display of such desirable qualities as teamwork, cooperation, dependability,
organization, hard work, respect, staff loyalty, and a teachable spirit.
• A degree in a ministry related field.
• A commitment to and agreement with the statements of beliefs of Broad Street Baptist
Church as stated in the Constitution and Bylaws.

 

General:


• Maintain a regular time of Bible study, prayer, devotion, and personal spiritual
growth.
• Coordinate ministry to support and complement Broad Street Baptist Church’s
purpose and vision.
• Participate in the worship services as the Pastor directs.
• Work well with the Pastor and other staff to coordinate various activities and
develop growth and unity within the entire church.
• Visit hospitals, nursing homes, and individuals in coordination with the Pastor and
other staff.
• Be a visual part of the community promoting Christ and our church, helping where
certain skills can make a difference and be a positive influence.
• Maintain open communication with the pastor in planning and directing the Youth
and Children’s ministries through staff meetings and other meetings as needed.
• Participate in and be a supporter of the local Association, State Convention, and
SBC.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor.

 

Youth Ministry:


• Develop, implement and direct programs for the youth of our church and
geographic area that will promote spiritual growth and wholesome activity which
will lead to a personal salvation experience, ongoing discipleship, and spiritual
maturity.
• Minister to the needs of youth and their families in times of crisis. This includes
but is not limited to hospitalization, deaths of family or friends, or other physical,
emotional, or spiritual needs.
• Be active in outreach to lost youth and their families in our church and community.
• Find creative ways for youth to participate in the life of the church.
• Teach the importance of both home and international missions in the church.
Plan missions activities for the youth to participate both in the community and
elsewhere.
• Be involved in the lives of youth through cooperation with the schools, PCCLC,
and other means.
• Be aware of social problems concerning youth as to better minister to their needs
and provide counsel as needed.
• Develop programs and provide leadership on Sunday morning, Sunday night, and
Wednesday night activities for the youth.
• Involve parents and other adults into the overall ministry to the youth. Provide
guidance and training for adults working with youth.

 

Children’s Ministry:


• Work with the children’s committee to develop, implement and direct programs for
the children of our church and geographic area that will promote spiritual growth
and wholesome activity which will lead to a personal salvation experience, ongoing
discipleship, and spiritual maturity.
• Be active in outreach to lost children and their families in our church and
community.
• Find creative ways for children to participate in the life of the church.
• Oversee each of the following ministries to give them direction and supervision:
Ø Children’s Church
Ø Children’s Sunday School
Ø Wednesday night activities
Ø Children’s Discipleship Training activities
Ø Vacation Bible School
• Prepare and administer the children’s ministry budget.
• Recruit and Equip volunteers as needed.
